The existing scanner is being upgraded with a more advanced 3T MRI scanner which yields exceptional anatomic detail.
In order to facilitate this new development, the MRI service will cease from March 2020 and will resume in the Summer.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience caused during the downtime period.
We will notify you again once the new MRI scanner is installed and service has resumed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Over the years we've had many enquiries about how a typical 3T MRI appointment might proceed. These are some of the most common questions:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) produces high resolution pictures of any part of the body in any direction. The scanner uses a high-strength magnet, radio waves and computers to generate images. MRI does not use X-Rays.
No the scan is not painful.
The radiographer will position you on a couch which slides into the MRI scanner. You will be asked to keep still while we take your images.
MRI is a safe procedure, but the scanner is very noisy when it is taking pictures so we will provide you with ear protection. We will be able to play music during your scan so you may like to bring a CD with you to listen to.
There are no after-effects from your scan so you can carry on with all your normal activities (driving, for example) straight away.
